A lot of students struggle through Math and end up falling behind as each year passes. It is my belief that ANYONE can learn and enjoy Math. I have a method called "Monkey Math" that basically means each process of math can be broken down so easily that a monkey could follow it.
While I was teaching, introducing variables seemed to be quite intimidating and confusing to students. Many students fall bored with math and it is our jobs as educators to spice things up and keep our content interesting. This video is a fun way to introduce solving for variables!
Math is fun is my user friendly, "go to" website that I will share with my students next year. And this is a good reference for this lesson.
Pinterest is also a great resource to spark lesson ideas.
I really like your blog, very well organized, super visual. The video shows how much you care about your students. Not to mention your advice for new teachers.
I like your post, we as math teachers always looking for fun ways to introduce algebra to our students, i like the idea of breaking down each process which makes it a lot easier to grasp, thank you for sharing!
I love your explanation of "Monkey Math" and completely agree with it!
ReplyDeleteI teach third grade and like what you are saying here (and the video) and know that I can apply it to my math students also.
